Junkyard Gems Rock The Red Buddha Lounge

Eclectic, unassuming, relaxed and comfortable are everything I would use to describe the Red Buddha Lounge.  The lounge which is nestled in suburban town of Lyndhurst nj is one of the best hidden gems in North New Jersey.  Invited by a friend, I decided to check out the place and the band performing their that night and was pleasantly surprised by both. Growing up and living in Lyndhurst, I had always drove past the place and wondered what the vibe was inside.  First impressions aren’t everything.

At first glance, it doesn’t look like much but you can’t judge a book by its cover. On the outside, it resembles you average “dive” bar, where people go to drink and it doesn’t much matter what’s playing in the background but once you step inside, that’s not the case it’s just the opposite. The decor is understated and subdued, it has a sophisticated comfy vibe, dimly lit it is accented by candles, couches and an ample dance floor this place houses music from acoustic rock to DJ’s rocking the dance floor. For this night’s performance classic rock ruled the night thanks to the Junkyard Gems.

The Junkyard Gems is the fresh faced cover band who’s roster is influenced  by the blues and classic rock driven sounds of influences like The Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles as well as the hard rock sounds of bands like Alice in Chains, Guns and Roses and Buck Cherry.  The band like their set list is unique, prior to the band forming nobody knew each other, reminiscent of the ABC series ” Making the Band” the boys of Junkyard Gems, found each other through an ad on Craigslist, after an informal jam session the rest was history.  Their sound is soulful with bluesy jazz element and instrumental pieces and interludes throughout the beginning and end of the songs.  Some of the highlights of the night included “Roadhouse Blues” The Doors, Oasis’s ” Champagne Supernova”, ” Don’t Let Me Down” The Beatles and Guns and Roses ” Sweet Child of Mine”.   All in all both the band and the bar where an interesting discovery and I will be back to both. You can check out the band this summer at Desmonds Tavern or Jimmy D’s blues saloon or follow them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JunkyardGemsMusic/

Hey this is Billy from the band, thanks for the review! Nice article too, I like the writing. I’m sure the owner over at Red Buddha would love to hear you describe his spot: “The decor is understated and subdued, it has a sophisticated comfy vibe, dimly lit it is accented by candles, couches and an ample dance floor this place houses music from acoustic rock to DJ’s rocking the dance floor.”
